Records and maintains vital records (birth, death, and marriage)
The City of Eastport supplies, for a $15.00 fee, certified copies, (with embossed seal), birth, marriage, and death records.

Records can be obtained in person during regular office hours (Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
Marriage Intentions - Marriage intentions must be filed with the clerk in the city or town you are a resident of or if non-resident they may be filed in any clerk’s office in the State. The ceremony may take place anywhere within the State.
* Bride and Groom must file together
* Identification required, i.e. birth certificate, driver’s license, or
passport.
* Also Social Security Numbers are required.
* Filing Fee $30.00
* If previously married, signed copies of the divorce papers or
certified copy of death certificate is required.
* Once the intentions are filed and the license is issued the parties
are free to marry anywhere within the State of Maine.
Supervises elections - The clerk of the municipality is the supervisor of all elections. This entails many responsibilities such as scheduling the election workers, preparing the ballot, processing absentee ballots, maintaining voter files and setting up the voting area.
Absentee ballots may be obtained for any election from the clerk’s office and may be sent to any destination you indicate. You may also make arrangements with the clerk to vote in the office. If you are permanently disabled and/or housebound you may contact the clerk’s office and we will send you a ballot.
Voter registration is held in the clerk’s office during regular office hours.
Dog licenses are issued at the clerk’s office. Dogs are required to be licensed at 6 months of age. Licenses run from January 1st to December 31st. A current rabies certificate is required at time of licensing. The fee is $6.00 for spayed female and neutered male and $11.00 for unspayed female or un-neutered male. Proof of spaying and neutering is required.
Recreational Shellfish Licenses – To dig clams on any legally opened flats with the City of Eastport requires a Recreational Shellfish License. The fee is $10.00 for 3 days or $36.00 for 1 year. Licenses for persons over 60 and children under 10 are free.
Business Certificates - are required to be filed for anyone conducting business in a name other than their own, also known as DBA certificate. The fee is $3.00 and they are valid for one year.
Genealogy Research - The City of Eastport records go back to the late 1700’s. All records are open to the public and available, upon request with appointment, at the clerk’s office.
